WORD COUNT 04 - THE PROFESSOR
Word Count becomes an incredibly versatile filter through which to see the struggling ambitions of humanity to survive amidst an ever more reduced supply of resources

Word Count is an ongoing, fragmentary film project which takes as it’s premise the following scenario: In the near future, scientists confirm a direct correlation between the dramatically rising sea-levels and the amount of words that we speak.
As a result, delegates from every nation of the world gather together to find a quick solution and resolve that each citizen of the world shall be rationed to 433 words per day. This comes to be known as Cage Law after John Cage’s 4”33’. Most citizens accept this new status quo and try quickly to adapt, while others reject it entirely, believing that freedom of speech is equal to the sanctity of life.
The central narrative thread dips in and out of shorts shot around the world, which investigate the consequences of this new law, and humanity’s propensity to adapt and improvise from different cultural, economic and climactic perspectives.
